One of our favorite aspects of general dentistry is that we get to treat patients of all ages and at all stages of life, from grandparents to young children. At Gladnick Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Rockville, MD, we value our patients, no matter what age they may be or what dental concerns they may have. We take pride in servicing families with unparalleled dental care in a comfortable, kid-friendly environment.

Introducing Your Child to Dental Care

One of the first steps to introducing your child to the importance of dental care is to make brushing and flossing fun and relaxing for them. When they realize it can be fun, they may be more apt to make it a part of their routine. You can even allow them to choose their own fun toothbrush and flavored toothpaste.

Another recommendation is to bring your child with you to your dental appointment before they have their own. This can help them feel more comfortable and diminish any apprehension they may have when it’s time for their first checkup.

Having your child watch you get your teeth cleaned can show them that it’s a safe experience for the whole family and that they’re in good hands. This also allows your child to develop a relationship with our staff and the dentist before their appointment so they won’t feel afraid or nervous about meeting a stranger.

Your Child’s First Cleaning

Once your child has all of their baby teeth, it’s time to schedule their first dental appointment with our Rockville children's dentist. During their first visit, we will check their teeth and gently clean them. Since you are in charge of their oral health, we will discuss with you healthy oral health habits such as daily brushing and avoiding sugary foods and drinks.

We may also do x-rays to check for any potential underlying issues we can’t detect during the exam. If your child has a cavity, we can treat it immediately, but if they require sedation, it’s recommended that you see a pediatric dentist.

Consistency Is Key

One of the most important things you can do is to encourage your child to practice good oral habits that they can carry with them throughout their lives. Getting regular teeth cleanings is essential for maintaining good oral health. With professional teeth cleanings, we remove plaque from the areas of your child’s mouth where their toothbrush and floss can’t reach.

Teeth cleanings also help eliminate bad breath and prevent oral health issues such as cavities and gum disease. At Gladnick Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, our skilled hygienists gently and thoroughly remove plaque and clean your child’s teeth so their smiles can be healthy and strong for years to come.
